Located in Largo in the heart of Prince Georges County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince Georges County residents.
Job Description
This role is reserved for the new graduate or nurse with less than 12 months experience. The nurse willutilize this time to learn the institution and nursing practice. It is expected that a nurse in this role successfullypass the probationary period within 12 months (18 months maximum with a defined action plan developed with manager). Utilizes the nursing process as the frame of reference for practice as a professional nurse.Participates in activities to develop own practice, and to support group practice goals at the unit level. Functions effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team. Is accountable to patient, familyand team members for care provided, and to the nurse manager for totality of work performance.
Qualifications
Qualifications: 1. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact stateagreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required. 2. Diploma in Nursing or associate degree in nursing required. 3. Completes all mandatory training and classes. 4. Current BLS certification required. Unit based licensure as required for the role as defined at theunit/department level. (examples include but are not limited to Neonatal Resuscitation Program[NRP], Certification in Pre-Transport/Post-Resuscitation Stabilization Care of Sick Infants forNeonatal Healthcare Providers [STABLE], Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support [ACLS), Trauma101, etc.) 5. Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education every two years. 6. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth anddevelopment over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirementsrelative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs. 7. Ability to learn and use computer systems in order to manage patient information. 8. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills. Working Conditions 1. Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call, and overtime may be required. 2. Work requires maximum lifting weight of 35 lbs. when participating in patient care tasks 50% of thetime to position and/or assist patients on to carts or into wheelchairs or beds, and generally, withambulation. Work requires standing and/or walking for up to 100% of scheduled work time;maximum lifting weight of 50 lbs. when lifting equipment and supplies. 3. There is potential for regular exposure to patients possessing infectious diseases requiringobservance of universal precautions requiring wearing protective clothing, gloves, and mask asappropriate, and observance of safe work practices.
